About Us

What we’re all about

At Highland Disability Sport (HDS) we aim to advance the education, health and wellbeing of people with a physical, learning and/or a sensory disability by developing quality sporting opportunities and promoting a range of initiatives that enhance pathways to participation.

HDS works in partnership with High Life Highland and are a branch of Scottish Disability Sport. Regular sports in Highland include football, swimming, golf, indoor and outdoor bowls, athletics, boccia, dance and fitness with multi-sport sessions, taster sessions and other opportunities available throughout the year.

Please see our yearly Calendar for events and Sports contacts for Club information.

In partnership with

Highland Disability Sports works very closely with High Life Highland to make sure training, education and events are readily available in the Highlands. We currently work with two Disability Sport Development Officers Charlie Forbes and Fiona Green and a coach Paul Davidson.

Highland Disability Sport is a branch of Scottish Disability Sport, we work closely with the Highland Regional Development Officer Kathryn Talbot-Heigh.

History of HDS

Highland Disability Sport was formed in February of 1982 under the name Highland Sports Association for Disabled People and held its first event in September in the form of a sports day. Since then, HDS has grown and helped numerous people access sport some of which have gone on to complete in para sports across the world. Others have competed in regional and national competitions, and many have made lifelong friends through the social sports they have participated in. HDS has taken a team from the Highlands to many UK Special Olympics over the years. At HDS we have always looked and welcomed new inclusive sports and will continue to do so in the future.
